Douglass Family Memorial Scholarship Fund

In Recognition of Extraordinary Service and Leadership, the Los Angeles County Funeral Directors Association Presents this Resolution in Honor of the Douglass Family.

Whereas, in the 1920’s, Jordan Dunaway and his wife, Juanita Douglass Dunaway, established the first of the Douglass Mortuaries.  Jordan and Juanita later brought Juanita’s brothers Phillip Douglass and Sam Douglass Sr., along with Sam’s wife Cravens, into the firm.

Whereas, in 1943, Sam Douglass Sr. and his wife Cravens opened Douglass Mortuary in El Segundo.  Their son, Sam Jr., joined the firm in 1950.  In 1958, Sam Jr. married Jacque Fisher Douglass who also became a member of the firm.

Whereas, over the years the Douglass Family acquired several locations, along with additional cremation societies, the firm is now known as Douglass Family Mortuaries.

Whereas, Sam Jr. and Jacque’s son Sean joined the firm and now serves as its President.

Whereas, along with providing outstanding care to the families they serve, members of the firm have been active in the funeral industry and civic organizations to include Kiwanis Club, El Segundo Educational Foundation, 20th Century Round Table, Children’s Hospital, Philharmonic Society of Orange County, Campfire Girls, Girl Scouts of America, Indian Guides, YMCA, Little League, Junior League, Bell Tower Foundation, Assistance League, Education Foundation of Saddleback, Chamber of Commerce, South Bay Trojan Club, Town and Gown, Moms Club, and the California Funeral Directors Association.

Whereas, members of the Douglass family have been involved in the Los Angeles County Funeral Directors Association serving in various positions on its Board of Directors for nearly six decades.

Therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles County Funeral Directors Association recognizes the Douglass Family and their extraordinary service and leadership within the Los Angeles Funeral Directors Association, the funeral profession, and the community at large.

Be it further resolved that the Board of Directors hereby formally names the Association Scholarship Fund the “Douglass Family Memorial Scholarship Fund” and that a copy of this resolution will be entered permanently into the minutes of the Los Angeles County Funeral Directors Association.

Signed this Third day of December, Two-Thousand and Twenty-four.
